Frequently Asked Questions

When should I rest with ME?
It's best to have enough planned rest in between activities that you don't need to crash, but if you get warning symptoms, such as nausea, sweating, weeping for no reason, increased muscle pains and twitching and utter exhaustion, then you definitely should stop and rest completely. However, if you have done a bit more than usual the day before and suffer tired aching muscles and feeling normally tired, this is no reason to go to bed for days. Learn to recognise the difference between healthy fatigue (like you used to feel after a long walk or a long day's work!), which will pass by tomorrow, and abnormal ME fatigue which makes you feel sick and ill.

If you are trying to cautiously increase your exercise capacity, you may experience achy muscles, just like someone who plays tennis the first time for months… but this does not mean you will deteriorate. Even if you overdo it and get nasty ME fatigue, this will settle with rest.
