Frequently Asked Questions
Are vitamins necessary?
In theory, if you eat a good diet and have no gut symptoms, then extra nutritional supplements are not needed. However, many people with ME have disturbed digestion, absorption of digested food, and gut motility. Studies have suggested that in ME there may be a deficiency of some essential fatty acids, in particular those derived from fish and vegetable oils. It is a good idea to supplement with both omega 6 (e.g. evening primrose oil) and omega 3 (e.g. fish oil, flax seed oil) series e.f.a.s, but you need at least 2 grams a day of each. A good quality multimineral and vitamin preparation daily, plus extra magnesium is also a good idea.
