Frequently Asked Questions

Is avoiding stress important?
Yes, if possible. But however well we plan, life has a habit of throwing the unexpected at us, in fact our lives are a continuous process of adapting to stresses, whether change of temperature, unexpected noise, getting a virus, a new baby, visitors… Chemical exposure is a stress on the body that should be avoided if possible. Emotional stress can really knock an ME person back, it pays to avoid 'friends' who give you grief. Trying to do too much and not succeeding is another stress to avoid.

Having ME makes you extra susceptible to stresses that healthy people can deal with, because the stress response is deficient in ME (hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal hormone response) with inadequate cortisone response by the adrenal glands.
